Character Classes
There are five distinct character classes in Diablo II, each unique in their own ways. Each class has individual strengths, weaknesses, spells and abilities that set them far apart from the others. While the Rogue, Warrior, and Sorcerer from the original Diablo have been laid to rest, there are several classes that will remind you of the original three choices for the path you will take in your quest for greatness. Those classes are listed as follows;
Paladin
Hailing from the Church of Zakarum, the religion of the Light, deep within the walls of Westmarch, the Paladin is a holy warrior of virtue, bent on driving evil from the countrysides of Sanctuary. Basing around Auras and Combat Skills, the Paladin is ideal for group play, and is the cornerstone of survival deeper into the dungeons of Diablo II. As the most durable of all classes in the game, the Paladin can remain in combat much longer than other characters are able to without perishing. Consider this class to be the most dependant on communication, and keep in mind that the Paladin must focus on his Vitality and Energy to survive.
Barbarian
From atop the cliffsides and valley rims surrounding Mount Arreat, the Barbarians, or Children of Bul-Kathos, are a secluded group. Basing around Strength, expect them to be rather advanced in the sense of armor and weapons when compared to both allies and enemies alike. Utilizing War Cries and Combat Skills as his major source of skills, the Barbarian is unmatched in melee combat, and should be dealt with with extreme caution in hostile situations. This class bases solely around his Strength, and therefore has little need or use for Energy.
Sorceress
Emerging from the Eastern Jungles as the sole female representative of the mage clans contained within it's tropical forests, the Sorceress draws from an age-old quest to purify and perfect her discipline of magic, melding and molding the elements of flame, ice, and lightning into the forms and types of her choosing. Driven almost entirely on magic and mana, the Sorceress has little need for Strength or Vitality. While her knowledge of her field of magic is unmatched, she is the weakest of classes in the sense of hand-to-hand, or melee combat.
Amazon
Having voyaged across the Southern Twin Sea from the islands her people inhabit, the Amazon is the female equivelant of the Barbarian, in that she is skilled in melee combat, and excels in Strength and Dexterity. While her stature suggests ranged combat as her main method of attack, the Amazon is surprisingly capable in either form of battle, most evident in her unique sets of skill and abilities, adding magical properties to her ranged and melee attacks. The Amazon, although appearing strong and easy to maneuver with, is one of the weakest all-around classes in the game, and should be cared for meticulously when being used to play the game.
Necromancer
As another of the classes hailing from the Eastern Jungles' mage clans, the Necromancer is skilled in the dark and arcane disciplines of magic, meddling in the Great Cycle of Being, and ultimately deriving from it an almost entirely poison and undead-based art to his ways. Mostly using magic as his form of attack, the Necromancer needs a high level of Energy in order to survive, as his cunning and skill in combat definately do not come from melee encounters. This is most evident in his small stature, and complete inability to survive at closer ranges when doing battle with melee-based warriors. |
