Word on the Street
Well, since I just finished an exam and still have like 4 friggin hours before I
have to go to work, I figured I'd do something for the page. After thinking about it, I decided I'd write another
rant. But hey, ideas are hard to come by. I thought and thought, but couldn't come up with jack shit. So I decided
to surf around a bit, looking for ideas. After about 20 minutes...nothing. So I've come to the conclusion that
the only thing I could write about is the various D2 sites around. I'm probably gonna get swamped with rants and
news coverage saying that people have had enough of this BS... who wants to be compared anymore. But nonetheless,
I'm going to describe a handful of sites around the community, and what I think of them. So here goes nothin!
- D2 Realm
- Our beloved host. I am not going to be biased here. The Realm has been around for quite some time now. They started
out at Warzone
as a fairly small site. Once they got their own domain name, the site got pretty damn good. Mordeth and DragonBane
are two good guys. They've had several other people working there, including myself, but I feel that by themselves
they have done the best job. They have a nice layout, and are currently working on another one. They have good
news coverage and some good info about the game. Some of the sections are a bit outdated, but HEY! some people
have lives beyond the net. If you haven't yet, you should definitely check them out.
- The Unofficial D2 Site - Diabloii.net is one of the top D2 sites around. The layout could be a bit nicer...maybe
it's just that I'm not a big brown fan. Elly and Flux are always on top of the ball when it comes to news, and
it seems that they have some pretty damn good connections. For example, they are currently holding a contest to
give away a Banshee 3D graphics card. Hey, I'd like to just have one, let alone give one away. Great content at
this site, most of it being up-to-date. They also seem to be very successful with the fans, since they've always
got some kind of reports coming in from fans and officials, and what not.
- The Gyard
- I don't mean to offend anyone, but this is probably my favorite Diablo II site. The Gyard is always the first
place I go to check for news, and it seems they've always got something new to report on. As with the Realm, some
of the sections aren't completely up-to-date, but of course, the life factor must kick in here somwehere. With
some of the best rants, the Gyard is always raising important and relevant issues, some humorous, such as Danfell's
cow level rant. A good fan art section, great layout and great staff...definitely a top-notch site.
- Diabloii.com - TheBigZW is doing a great job of handling this popular site on his own. I really like the look
of this page, as it looks really professional. Good news coverage, and they always have some good fan art coming
in. Kudos to TheBigZW for keeping this site as good as it is.
- Diabolic - Diabolic recently re-opened with a new layout, new content, and a new team. I'm part of that team,
but, again, I'm not gonna be biased. I'm not going to say anything bad, but seriously how could you say anything
about this site? It's just great. I don't check it for news that much, since I do alot of news there, but they've
really got good news coverage. The content is great, and Samwise obviously spent alot of time on the specials as
well as the layout, which could be dubbed one of the best ones around. Check em out.
- Catacombs of Tristram - One of the best sites graphically, Azrael and his team always provide us with insightful
rants and info about the game. I don't go there often. I don't know why, I just don't. It's seriously a great page
with a great team. Great content, and they are currently working on a new layout, which promises to be awesome.
